ABERNETHY | PERTHSHIRE | SCOTLAND
WELCOME TO OUR CLOOTIE CLAN
I am a mum to four wonderful children and a French Bulldog called Ralph! I live in the Pictish village of Abernethy on the Perthshire/Fife border and have gained several catering qualifications over the years and achieved a Degree with Distinction in Food. We are a family run business, creating each Clootie Dumpling individually with the best and freshest of ingredients. We prepare and cook our traditional Clootie Dumplings using a recipe handed down through generations of our family. We also have a selection of traditional Clootie Dumplings incorporating a modern twist to the recipe. All scrumptious warm with ice-cream or custard.
WHAT IS A
The first published recipe of the Clootie Dumpling dates back to 1747. A Clootie Dumpling is a wonderful Scottish fruit pudding cooked in a unique way.
Once all the ingredients are mixed to the perfect consistency, they are wrapped in a freshly boiled ‘Cloot’ that has been sprinkled with flour. Cloot being Scots for cloth. The flour is what forms the delicious ‘skin’ around the outside of the dumpling after it has been boiled.
The clatter & bubble of a Clootie Dumpling in a pan and the warm aroma of sugar and spice will ignite your taste buds.

CLOOTIE DUMPLING WORKSHOPS
THE ART OF
Our Clootie Dumpling kitchen is where you will participate in the preparation of your own traditional Clootie Dumpling. Once the dumpling mixture has been prepared, your mix will be wrapped in a traditional Clootie Dumpling cloth, which is known as a ‘cloot’. You will then be invited to give your dumpling a ‘wee skelp’ for good luck before popping it in our big dumpling pots for boiling.
Now it’s time to relax while you enjoy a tea, coffee or juice with a slice of wonderful dumpling and enjoy the aromas and sounds of your Clootie Dumpling cooking. During the break we will share with you the history of the Clootie Dumpling and let you in on a few secret serving suggestions. We’ll have a taste test too where you can sample some of our favourite flavours, some traditional and some with a modern twist.
Once your Clootie Dumpling is ready, you will be invited back into the kitchen to ‘de-cloot’ your dumpling before letting it dry in our ovens before you take it home. Our Clootie Dumpling workshops include all the required ingredients, PPE and cooking equipment.
We are regular visitors to farmers markets and game fairs around Scotland where you can meet the team and samples some of our fresh Clootie Dumplings.
We always come stacked with a wide range of our favourite fresh Clootie Dumpling flavours and our Make Your Own Kits. Its a great opportunity to meet new people and and share our love for what we do.
